‘A leopard does not change its spots,’
B’nai Brith Canada reacts to news of Hamas’ new cabinet

B’nai Brith Canada has reacted to the formation of the Hamas government by again expressing its concerns that Canada’s humanitarian aid to the Palestinians could all too easily be diverted for terrorist causes.

“A leopard does not change its spots and it is clear from Hamas’ cabinet picks and statements to date that it has no intention of abandoning its terrorist ways,” said Frank Dimant, executive vice president of B’nai Brith Canada. “A cabinet that consists of a who’s who of the terrorist world and whose members are bent on Israel’s destruction cannot possibly be welcomed as a legitimate peace process interlocutor.

“Canada has signaled its willingness to review overseas funding to the Palestinians as the situation develops. But what we now have on our hands is a belligerent terrorist government that has defiantly refused to hold to past agreements. Under this scenario Canada will have to find other ways to ensure that urgent funding reaches ordinary Palestinians so as to ensure aid money is not diverted to advance Hamas’ terrorist agenda.”
