The AGO has temporarily waived the cost of general admission, offering free access to contemporary art, special children’s activities, and until March 20, selected works from the permanent collection.
Until June, the AGO offers free admission to selected exhibitions of contemporary art, including Peter Doig: Works on Paper, opening March 22, Present Tense no. 33: Murray Laufer, opening April 19, and Wallworks by Sol LeWitt, Lawrence Weiner, C.A. Swintak, Denyse Thomasos, Raymond Pettibon and Chris Ballantyne. Beginning March 9, Culture City: New Toronto Buildings brings together models of expansion projects undertaken by six world-recognized Ontario cultural institutions and large-scale colour photographs of five others recently completed or in the planning stage. The Henry Moore Sculpture Centre will also be free of charge until it closes temporarily due to construction on March 20.
“We’re seizing the opportunity of this particular phase of construction to make the AGO even more accessible,” says Arlene Madell, director of marketing and visitor services. “Where we’re not able to show the permanent collection we have a wonderful array of other artworks and displays that will give visitors a taste of the AGO of the future. When we resume normal general admission this summer, visitors will see an even larger portion of the AGO devoted to the permanent collection.”
