Yizkor ceremony at Earl Bales Park

TORONTO - Fran Sonshine, national chair of the Canadian Society for Yad Vashem, addresses almost 400 people – including Holocaust survivors, partisans, students and the community at large – at the Canadian Society’s annual Yizkor (memorial) ceremony, commemorating the 6 million Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust and paying tribute to Holocaust survivors. The ceremony coincided with the launching of the Society’s Remember. Reflect. Recommit. Campaign, which aims to revitalize the Canadian Society’s memorial site at Earl Bales Park. Bringing greetings were Israel’s Consul General to Toronto and Western Canada DJ Schneeweiss; MPP Monte Kwinter, on behalf of Premier Dalton McGuinty; MP Mark Adler; Director of the York Centre Federal Liberal Riding Association Eduardo Harari; and City Councillor James Pasternak. Also in attendance were Dr. Carolyn Bennett; MP Ted Opitz, MP John Carmichael, MPP Mike Colle, Richmond Hill Mayor David Barrow; Markham Deputy Mayor Jack Heath, and councillors Shelley Carroll, Deb Schulte, Alan Shefman, Howard Shore, Karen Stintz, Michael Thompson, and Sandra Yeung Racco.
