TORONTO – The second installation of the successful Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) will be on display on Oct. 10. Since its June 27 opening, Dead Sea Scrolls: Words that Changed the World has showcased eight scrolls, complemented by full interpretations, translations and background information. They will be replaced by eight others, including informative interpretations and translations as well as 200 artifacts already on display, on loan from the Israel Antiquities Authority and the ROM’s own collections.From Oct. 10-18, in addition to this second installation of scrolls, the ROM will be showcasing one of the oldest copies of the text of the Ten Commandments. Due to the scroll’s fragile nature and sensitivity to light and humidity, the Ten Commandments will be publicly displayed for a total of 80 hours only and it is included in general museum admission. The Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit closes on Jan. 3, 2010. |
