Decision-making process during severe illness topic of OU symposium |

TORONTO – In conjunction with B’nai Torah Congregation and Torah in Motion, an educational program encouraging in-depth examination of difficult contemporary issues, the Orthodox Union’s (OU’s) department of Community Services will present a symposium to discuss the multifaceted decision-making process in times of severe illness, including medical, family support, legal and halachic (pertaining to Jewish law) issues – Jewish and general. A panel discussion moderated by Frank Buchweitz, national director of the department of Community Services and Special Projects, will feature: Dr. Jonathan Abrams, assistant professor at University of Toronto; Rabbi Howard Jachter of the Beit Din (rabbinical court) of Elizabeth, NJ; Rachel Blumenfeld, partner at Miller Thomson LLP, and Rabbi Donald Weiss, director of chaplaincy services at Jewish Family and Child Service.
The event takes place Sunday, Nov. 29, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at B’nai Torah, 465 Patricia Ave. Admission is $10; students and Torah in Motion pass holders may attend free of charge.
