TORONTO – Staff for Hasbara Fellowships representing campuses across North America have taken on an additional cause separate from its regular agenda of supporting Israel and Jewish programming: raising money for cancer research.

A week ago Monday they decided to participate in the ‘Light the Night’ event – walking across the Brooklyn Bridge for Cancer – which took place last Thursday, aiming to raise $1,000 for the cause. By Wednesday morning, they surpassed their goal.

According to Sammy Katz, Canadian campus coordinator, the motivation came from a close friend who was suddenly diagnosed with an aggressive form of the disease, which “affects millions of people and their families around the world.”
