WINNIPEG – Winnipeg Walk 4 Darfur held an afternoon run/walk at Assiniboine Park on Sunday to raise awareness and funds in response to the ongoing genocide and humanitarian crisis in Darfur, Sudan. About 500 attended. NDP MLA Jennifer Howard said, “When we come together we create a better world.” Liberal MLA Anita Neville said, “I’m Jewish, and have heard repeatedly ‘never again,’ and yet, in many ways, the world is still sitting idly by and watching.”

Liberal MP Irwin Cotler, human rights critic, in a Sept 30 Montreal Gazette article, wrote, “More than five years after the killing began, the world continues to witness a genocide by attrition in Darfur, where more than 400,000 have died, 3 million have been displaced, and 4.5 million are on a life support system.”
